1. Overview
QuizRank (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by an individual based in Ghana. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our website and services at playquizrank.com (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information we collect
- Account and profile data. When you sign up or sign in, authentication is handled by Clerk. Depending on how you register (for example, with Google), Clerk provides us with your name and an profile image URL (often from your connected account, such as Google). We receive updates from Clerk via webhooks and store this information in our database so we can run the Service.
- Leaderboards and reports. We use your name and profile image URL so you can be shown on real-time leaderboards and in reports in a recognizable way. You can update your name and profile image URL in your Clerk account settings on the top right corner of the page.
- Quiz and usage data. We store information you generate while using the Service, such as quizzes, questions, answers, scores, deadlines, premium or subscription-related flags and dates we associate with your account, and related records needed to operate features (for example, trivia progress). Some quiz and trivia content originates from licensed third-party sources (for example, the Open Trivia Database); we process and store it like other Service content as described in this policy and in our Credits page.
- Technical data. Like most online services, our hosting and analytics tools may process technical information such as device or browser type, general location derived from IP (for example, country or region), and similar data described in the sections below. We do not use this policy section to hide tracking: see Analytics.
3. How we collect information
We collect information that you provide through the Service, that Clerk provides when you authenticate, and that is collected automatically through our infrastructure and third-party services described below.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service;
- Authenticate you and maintain your account;
- Display leaderboards, scores, and reports;

- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues;
- Comply with law and enforce our terms.
We do not send marketing emails to users. We do not show third-party advertising on the Service.
5. How we share information
We share information with service providers that help us run the Service, only as needed for their role. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use remarketing services for marketing or advertising.
- Clerk (authentication and user management). Privacy policy: clerk.com/legal/privacy.
- Polar (payments and subscriptions). We do not store your full payment card details on our servers; payment data is handled by Polar and its processors as described in their policy. Privacy policy: polar.sh/legal/privacy-policy.
- Vercel (hosting and analytics). Privacy policy for Analytics: vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer (for example, a merger or asset sale), subject to appropriate safeguards where applicable.
6. Retention and account deletion
We keep information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
When you delete your account through Clerk, Clerk processes the deletion on their side and our backend receives the corresponding event. We then remove your information from our database and from leaderboards (and related displays) as promptly as our systems allow. Some residual copies may persist for a limited time in backups or logs before being overwritten; we do not use deleted-account data for new purposes after deletion.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International transfers
We operate from Ghana, and our service providers may process information in other countries (including the United States and the European Economic Area). Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
10. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA / CPRA”) may apply to you. Depending on how we process information, you may have the right to know, access, correct, delete, and port certain personal information, and to limit use of sensitive personal information (if applicable). You may also have the right to opt out of “selling” or “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; we do not sell personal information or use remarketing as described in this policy.
You may designate an authorized agent to submit requests where permitted by law. We will verify requests as required by law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To submit a request, use the contact details in Contact us below.
11. European users (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, and applicable law applies, we process your personal data as described in this policy. Our legal bases may include: performance of a contract with you (providing the Service); legitimate interests (for example, securing the Service, improving features, and analytics that do not override your rights); and compliance with legal obligations. Where consent is required, we will ask for it separately.
You may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to data portability, where applicable. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
12. California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)
CalOPPA requires us to disclose how we respond to “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) signals. There is no uniform industry standard for DNT; we do not currently respond to DNT signals in a dedicated way. You can control cookies and similar technologies through your browser settings where available.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as appropriate.
